Recycled silk placemat 12 X 18 Made in Nepal.
Denise was fascinated by the recycled silk fiber and worked with ACP to design these beautiful placemats. They are hand woven from recycled silk sari material on a strong cotton warp. Bright, beautiful and sturdy these will last for years and work well on a table or to brighten up a dresser. They also match up with the recycled silk.
The Lagankhal Weaving Group joined the Association of Craft Producers (ACP) in 1985 with the hope of earning money for their families and children. Starting with four women who had no weaving skills, ACP trained the group in simple flat weaving. After receiving their training the group chose to create their own communal workshop near their homes in Kathmandu, Nepal so that they could work in their spare time and be near their children when they needed them. Since 1985 the group has expanded to thirteen women weavers, of which a majority are the main breadwinners in their families.
