The most famous of all of the Andean instruments!  Ocarinas are the oldest known instrument in the Americas and were used in the pre-Hispanic times as a means of communication through the mountain valleys, herding llamas, and making traditional music.

Just as popular as our geometric clay ocarinas, this series is hand painted with typical Frontier figure designs.

Ocarinas are bagged with header card, instruction guide, and historical background

Handmade from clay and hand painted, this ocarina-style flute has piercings incorporated into the Native American Indian designs for finger and mouth placement. Designs in multicolored shades on terracotta-colored clay include turtles, kokopelli, hand, horses, lizard, three spirits and our Frontier collection.

On the back, additional piercings allow for threading of the cord so the flute can be worn around the neck. A truly lovely, collectible piece!

Our project in Peru is about promoting and employing skilled artisans in need for a market place, upholding fair trade values, respecting local traditions and family structures. Nestled in a dusty street, in one of the poorest suburbs of Lima, surrounded by large factories and hillside slums, our artisan workshop in San Juan de Lurigancho employs and houses dozens of local families of skilled talented artists. Fair trade wages and a sustainable workplace environment have given confidence, pride, inspiration to the artists contributing to their cultural preservation of tradition, lifestyle and dignity.
